The next phase of the Medanles compound is a shared office/art studio. Currently, the owners are working out of the guest bedroom and making art out of the open-air carport, so this will give them a much needed retreat from the main living space and the elements. We are using a similar material palette, as the residence, to unify the different structures, however applying it in new ways, i.e. the latilla rainscreen on the front of the studio (see rendering below). A large south facing sliding door with a 3’ overhang for solar diffusion during the summer and heat gain in the winter. And large windows facing east and west to get inspiration from the incredible scenery. It will be a small but mightily used structure.
